Our tutors have backgrounds using programs and metrics grounded in time-tested research in the field of reading instruction, including but not limited to: Quantiles, Math their Way, Math Investigations, NCTM focal points, CGI*, and other proven multi-sensory methods and instructional practices. We specifically teach children how to attack math in a new way which translates into school success using strategies specifically designed to deepen and develop your child's concrete understanding of skills and concepts. This is different because students use objects known as manipulatives to "visualize" mathematics skills/concepts before moving to paper and pencil - so the math is real, stays with them, and provides a deeper understanding for concepts to come. We believe math is like a five strand rope, intertwined and ever-changing- each strand of the rope touches the others sometime up the chain- thus skills in number sense like estimation or fractions affect the learning of algebra and measurement. We know from experience that children need guidance and modeling, guided practice and support-not notebooks full of rote drill and practice. More of the same is not effective. 

We tutor children in math focusing on the five areas of mathematics: 

• numeration/number sense

• measurement

• algebraic thinking and patterns, functions and logic

• data analysis, graphing, statistics, probability

• geometry

  Using our in-depth mathematics assessment (children grades K-8- [students in HS receive a basic math inventory], we match specific mathematics skills and concepts needed for your child's gaps and weaknesses needed for further growth and development to the specific points in the Wake County curriculum for your child's grade.
